" This is a pretty typical college dorm. Small bedrooms, communal bathrooms. Not much privacy, but it wouldn’t be a freshman dorm otherwise. The dining hall is right below it and it’s a pretty central location "

" Great place to live freshman year, right near campus. It was nice to also be so close to a dining hall, especially when it started to get cold outside. It was a ten minute walk from both classes and the grocery stores, so one of the best locations. "

" Stetson east, while small, is the ideal location for freshmen year. Its in the heart of campus and attached to the main dining hall (don't have to go outside in bad weather). No cooking amenities, but that is fine because meal plans are mandatory for 2 years at NU. All the kids usually end up hanging out in this building because of its proximity to the dining hall and other campus locations. Staff keep the pace in good order and immaculately clean. No pests!! (rare for city schools). "

" I currently live in Stetson East as a Resident Assistant (RA). I wouldn't be able to live in this dorm otherwise because Stetson East is exclusively a dorm for freshmen and I am a third-year student. Though there are the occasional moments where it gets fairly loud and rowdy because of the age of the people living there, Stetson East is an overall decent residence hall to live in. Though there is no central heat or air conditioning, each room has an air system that either heats or cools the room depending on the time of year. The contraption doesn't really work in hotter months, but rooms tend to get pretty cool once you leave your window open because of the way the wind interacts with the building. The machine works very well during colder months and will keep you very warm, with settings of "low", "medium", and "high" giving you the power to determine how warm the room could be. The communal bathrooms tend not to get dirty often because our university hires workers to clean the bathrooms daily, as well as replenish soap and toilet paper. For matters of maintainence and other broken appliances, the RAs are a good place to start with taking next steps on how to get people from the university who fix things to fix any issues in the residence hall. We are also a building that includes a dining hall, making it highly convenient for residents to get a meal without having to travel too far from their living space. There are multiple study rooms on the first and third floors, for people that prefer not to study in their rooms or at the library. There are also common areas with televisions with cable and options for hooking up video game consoles for group play sessions on the second and fourth floors. Finally, I would say that this dorm is highly convenient for newcomers because it is close to other freshman dorms on campus - making it easier for people to make friends - and it is close to shopping areas and transportation that will take you downtown.
