" In my experience, the University of Calgary presented several serious challenges, particularly after the shift to online and hybrid learning. Since COVID, I found the quality of instruction had noticeably declined, with many professors heavily focused on research rather than teaching. This made it especially difficult when I needed extra help in courses, as support outside of lectures was limited.
The science advising services were inconsistent, at times unhelpful, and in some cases, even dismissive. As someone who required accommodations, I found the accessibility services unreliable, with my accommodations only being implemented inconsistently. This added unnecessary stress to an already demanding academic load.
Social life on campus was minimal, which may be expected from a commuter-heavy university, but it contributed to a feeling of isolation. My most serious concern, however, involved an unresolved issue of harassment and mistreatment from within the faculty, which ultimately impacted my ability to graduate and forced me to leave the university for my well-being. I hope that sharing this helps others make informed decisions and that the university takes steps to better support and protect its students. "

" I wish this school would give students a better idea of what their degree path will look like and how they can plan better. The facilities are ancient and they only update the most modern ones while others fall apart. The parking should be free for how expensive classes are. The professors are generally really accommodating and understanding. "

" It's alright, some programs are better than others (it depends on funding). If you're wanting university to be parties and fun, this isn't really the place, but if it's a stepping stone for you to get to what you actually want to do it's decent. They've been working pretty hard to try and improve student services and accommodations recently, and most profs are very understanding of the fact that students also have lives. "

" Honestly, a great school if you are just looking to show up and get your work done. If you are looking for a community or the "true university experience" this is definitely not the place. The Wi-Fi is notoriously difficult to hook up to, limited and poor food options, and the professors are researchers first with many struggling to teach well. In terms of research, this place has many opportunities but is often limited to a few students. Being a transfer student, I found that they made the process very difficult and academic advisors offer minimal help overall. Gym is great and lots of natural recreation opportunities being in Calgary. "

" University of Calgary is a commuter school, so it can be difficult to meet people and make friends. However, it is also cheaper than many other Canadian universities. With professors it is like the lottery, I've had some absolutely terrible profs and some that were incredibly inspiring but for the most part they are just okay. This university is primarily a research university so the professors are not always the best at teaching but they do know their area of expertise very well, so if you are really passionate about engineering you will do well here.
