" Was a bit of an antisocial commuter school, did not have appropriate resources with research or mental health. I would recommend getting into clubs early and making sure that your advisor was supportive (mine was nice). I would also choose a major that is flexible and doesn't make you delay your degree due to bureaucratic reasons "

" Simon Fraser University is an institution where you get work done. Don't expect a social life on campus because most students are commuters as they come to campus for lectures or studying, then go home. The facilities are getting better since the campus is going through renovations, but the student services such as "health and counselling" and "student services" can be a hit or miss. "

" overall, the SFU experience is great academic wise but the social scene is a bit dead unless you live on res. If you want to land a job after undergrad, please do coop. It really helps with landing a job at a bigger company "

" My experience at Simon Fraser University was mostly academic. The university has good quality professors as well as highly intelligent classmates but social life is very minimal. Food was not bad though more variety is highly encouraged. Exam results are scaled so the more capable your classmates are the higher your score must be to achieve a good grade. University structure mostly concrete but at high elevations so you are able to see the mountains though could be quite challenging to reach if there is heavy snow during winter. Professors are pretty easy to reach and open to talking to students. The social life is probably the weakest point of this university from my perspective because most students disconnect from university activities after classes and I suspect it’s due to the scale grading system since you’d need to be better than your other classmates to succeed in getting a better grade than them. In order to do this, this means more time is required to study to get a better handle of the subject. I suspect the social life in this university is what you make of it so the more effort you put into it the more enjoyable it’d be for you. "

" SFU is strong from an academic aspect but such a limit on class availability, completely dead social life, and overall depressing campus vibe bring it down. If you build relationships, there are some fantastic people who can help make your experience a good one. I’ve enjoyed the community of people. "
