" Good campus with good facilities. I would recommend joining the WSU as well as any other unions you are interested in as it is a good way to meet people. The academic staff are friendly and approachable. The administrative staff are OK, some are friendly, some are not. "

" Great campus. It's brand new so all the facilities are modern. Would be nice if there were options for study but I assume that is coming eventually. Staff are great and the school offers a lot of support especially now. "

" I studied undergrad at Auckland Uni and had an OK time. For me studying at Waikato was much nicer. The campus is easy to get to and is beautiful with lakes and lots of greenery + birds and fish etc. The coffee at Kahurangi is great and the barista there is the coolest guy! The real thing that I love at Waikato however, is how much stock my lecturers appear to place in student understanding and engagement. At Auckland it felt like you should just be happy to be there, but at Waikato there is less of a power distance between student and lecturer. Everyone who has taught me seems to love what they teach and get satisfaction from their students engaging with the course content. I will say that a lot of the content is not as advanced as at Auckland. A 500 level stats paper that I took at Waikato had much of the same content as a 300 level paper at Auckland, but I know this is something they are working on as the 300 level stats paper at Waikato was much harder this year (much to the student's horror)! " The University of Waikato has an overarching "laid-back" nature in almost all respects. Campus culture is relaxed. Hamilton living expenses are affordable. Teaching staff are approachable. This laid-back nature, whilst approachable, also comes with some negative consequences: administration tends to be unstructured and disorganised, particularly in regards to the Waikato Management School. The University of Waikato is renowned for its Management School, specifically the academic side of it. The teaching staff are generally knowledgeable and a great resource to students, and most of the papers are practical and useful. However, the administration side of things has severely dampened this experience for me; changes have been made to the structure of certain degrees, questionable choices have been made in regards to changes to papers (or the removal/introduction of papers), and students are left clueless. The paper outlines are often inaccessible until students barely have any time left to make changes to their enrollment. Overall, I would consider the University of Waikato to be slightly above average. It isn't great. It isn't terrible. It isn't really anything special. A bit like Hamilton itself. 3.5/5 stars. "

" The campus at the university is dated , some of the buildings have not been updated in a long time, and are hot in the summer and cold in the winter. That said, the campus is very big and with a lot of beautiful nature, so being outside is lovely. There is really big library and decent student centre. There is excellent coffee on campus at Kahurangi, and a few good food choices, a pharmacy, medical centre, counselling services, etc. The teaching staff are incredibly helpful, they want you to succeed. At post-grad level, they know you by name and begin to treat you as a colleague. There are lots of student clubs and activities, associations etc. Hamilton is also a pretty great place to be a student. It's some of the cheaper rent for a city in NZ, with lots of bars and cafes, and easy enough access to the mountain and the beach. "
