Mehran University of Engineering and Technology - Ratings, Reviews & Ranking

" Hi, I studied Mechanical Engineering at this university. However, my advice and review is applicable to all departments and university in general. I will describe my experience in different points. Strengths of Mehran University: 1. On campus student life is awesome in terms of sociability, gatherings, group discussion. 2. Highly secure environment 3. Strict and disciplined lectures, tests and exams. 4. Supportive Staff and Management Weaknesses 1. Lack of industrial linkages and as a result, students from other universities are favored for internships and trainings. 2. Administrative staff is dumb and sluggish. If you have any problem with your credentials, transcripts, degrees, transport facility, ID etc, you'd have to wait 15 days to get the issue resolved. This is the minimum time it would take. There is not one student who has had a smooth experience with university administration I have had several issues with official documents, I will share the latest one. University transcripts define their grading criteria on the back of the Transcript so it is easier for international institutes to judge your gpa according to their own criteria. My transcript had no description in the back. When I asked my fellow class mates, it turned out they all had this issue. How could a institute make this blunder for an entire batch of students? 3. Lack of up to date curriculum and workshop practice. There is no room for creativity if there are no tools. 4. Lack of scholarships and endowments for needy and poor students. 5. Limited hostel rooms as low as one-tenth of student population. Even though the University has vast space for construction but they are busy with building and introducing 3 new departments every year rather than focusing on the needs of students. Obviously the institute wants to make profits but the institute is state financed. 6. Massive student intake, more than it can handle. There are more engineers graduating than industries can handle. A typical batch consists of 150 - 250 students per department for example; Mechanical Engineering 160 students per year, Civil Engineering 210 students per year etc. If students do not qualify the entrance test, they allocate would self financed students to fill more than the desired spots. Fees is 1200 USD per year. 7. The most important point, when it comes to career; the national and multi-national corporations will opt for students from NED University, Karachi or NUST University, Karachi. This is because Mehran University has weak connections with industries and students lack all the practical knowledge. Most of the engineers from MECH/CIVIL/ELEC end up in sales, management, business etc. If you are looking for tech oriented career, MUET is not for you. "

" Overall, I am quite satisfied with everything this university has offered to its students. The syllabus was well structured, teachers completed the course before the semester ended. Not only this multiple social and educational events take place every year to educate students about the cutting edge technology and the major issues of the society, the administration of the university also organizes sports week after every two years where the interdepartmental matches are played. Students who can’t afford to pay yearly fees are offered with multiple scholarships to cover their expenses, not only this top ten students are awarded with cash price on their outstanding performance. The not so good side about this university is that the facility of the cafeteria really needs to improvement. "
