" Might be a good university for some courses, but the social sciences feel neglected. The best way to sum up the University from my experience is to refer to it as neither here nor there. For every helpful staff member, there is a useless one. Wouldn't choose it if I could go back in time but it definitely does the job. "

" Nice university campus and the surrounding town is great for students and has everything you need. Media related courses are interesting and mostly enjoyable but is let down by the high turnover of staff and inconsistent teaching. Student union is great and has a society available for everyone. "

" Academic staffs are very inspiring. Excellent studio facility and smooth booking system for the studio and equipment. Frequently help concerts and festivals inviting sound artists worldwide. Students can volunteer and easily access those events. Huddersfield is a great area to focus on study without too many distractions. If you'd like to go to bigger cities for sightseeing or gigs, it's also very well connected to Leeds, York, and Manchester. The cost of living is low. If you are an international student, it's easy to find your hometown food there. Quite a diverse town but unluckily still experienced some uncomfortable racist harassment. For renting accommodation, it's recommended to consult with the university first, better rent from those that the university recommends. Had a very bad experience with a property agent; signed the contract, transferred one-year rent to their bank account (international students are often required to do so as we don't have a local/British guarantor), then was informed that the landlord changed the agent to others and they were not managing the property anymore, so my room was taken by someone else and my contract became invalid (which was nonsense). The agent wouldn't transfer my money back, kept holding my full-year rent, and kept saying they were the victim as the landlord bailed them. Have gone through university housing support team, citizens advice, housing Ombudsman, voluntary solicitor (as a student I didn't have money to hire one), police officers, action fraud, even local newspaper (they wouldn't write about this as the matters of international students weren't their concerns). It took me one year to seek help and had to constantly go to their office to negotiate myself with my not-that-fluent-English back then, but none of them worked. Eventually, I had to make a poster myself with a concise sentence 'they steal my money' and just stood outside their office/store (luckily, it's super close to the bus stops, taxi stands, coach stops, and train station, location that people pass by a lot). People took pictures of me holding the poster and posted them on social media. I stood there for only less than an hour, got called into their office, met the manager who was outside but immediately returned back to the office, and transferred part of my money back in front of me, then within two weeks time, all my money's returned. This didn't happen only to me but also to other international students. It was a very draining process but I was quite persistent. But for some who were already struggling with understanding the situation and their right, busy with their study and adjusting to a brand new environment mentally and physically, some didn't get their money back at all before they graduated and returned to their own country, some only got part. " Small university so provides lots of support and one to one aid with students. Staff in sport department are incredible. There is food areas and cafes in the local area such as greggs, spoons and subway. Living costs in this town are cheap. "
