" I chose Queen Mary's due to its Russell Group status. At the time, it appeared to be an upstanding university making it appealing to both potential employers and students (such as myself). However, in recent years, its overall reputation has somewhat deteriorated and I think its what pushes most prospective students away. My first impressions of the Mile End campus were mixed, the local area is quite nice with a large park and many cafes surrounding it providing a good third space for students. That said, its still in East London, which doesn't feel as polished or traditionally 'university-like' as other areas (which in hindsight would've made me hesitate a bit before deciding to come here) and it does play a part in the overall 'student experience'. I digress... but to make up for the poor location QM should make their campus more aesthetic. I know they have recently renovated the Biological Sciences building but they should start with the other buildings. As of 2026, the campus looks and feels disorganised, with many different buildings scattered around making it quite confusing to get around and a bit of an eye-sore to be quite frank. One of my main concerns is the lack of a clear, welcoming central entrance, what I mean by this is that its just one gate that leads to a sliver of pavement. You can argue that there are 2 different entrances as well but you have to walk through a road full of trucks and vans making it quite unsafe. I wish there could be a safer and wider entrance to significantly enhance first impressions. On a positive note, student life is one of Queen Mary's strengths. There are many societies and student unions. The weekly newsletter also regularly promotes opportunities and events, which helps maintain a lively atmosphere. Education-wise, QM is definitely up there with their diverse range of courses and the fact that they have foundation years for most courses makes higher education accessible for most students. I'm only a first-year STEM student so my opinion on my course is still developing but what I can say is most of my professors are welcoming and seem genuinely engaged with what they're teaching. The workload has also been manageable with weekly assignments that include not only problem based questions but also essays and group projects, making learning feel more varied and slightly more bearable.
Overall, Queen Mary offers solid academic opportunities and an active student community. However, improvements to the Mile End campus would noticeably improve the student experience. For these reasons I would currently rate it 3 out of 5. "

" I am overall pretty satisfied with my university its a good choice for anyone who wants to attend a Russel group uni but also wants a more laid back sort of experience where there isn't so much pressure with applications and rankings. The staff are good at their job and I think that I am getting a quality education. The campus has great facilities and the cafeteria is amazing even if you don't attend the uni but are in London definitely check it out. The labs are also great and there is a lot if funding going into having the best technology available. My only issue is that I feel like there aren't a lot of variety with module selections on my course. Overall a solid choice if you wanna study in London but couldn't get into the top London unis. I enjoy being here. "

" Overall great experience, the Mile Campus is nice and clean and have good facilities. Classes are well organized and teachers are prime level.
Library has lot of spaces and areas.
Exam period in my opinion should be different. It is all concentrated at the end of the academic year, while I think would be better to distribute exams during the whole year "

" Queen Mary, overall was a great univeristy. I had some of the best times in my life there. Quality of studying is great, although, there are areas of improvements for sure. I am very much into sports, and sadly the facilities and overall sports budget were nothing as close as other universities, which I feel can take quite a bit away from students. "

" You are learning from the experts. QMUL staff in the school of English and Drama are on the cutting edge of research and practice.
In respect of doing a joint honours degree you can split your course into a major and minor study but it is recommended you take a 50/50 approach to get the most out of both subject. Completely agree with this approach.
If you are moving to London from a smaller town or city would highly recommend QMUL for the campus-city blend. You have that community feel dropped in the middle of a vibrant city. Couldn't get better. "
