" I would recommend the engineering program. It is surprisingly highly ranked. Most professors always have time to answer your questions. Campus is safe during the day but is a little sketchy at night in certain areas. Many students are commuters. I personally commuted from an hour away and found that this wasn't uncommon among students. "

" I'm an online student. I really enjoy the education I am receiving and enjoy the courses. I do recommend this institution to future scholars. Affordable although setting up classes is rough. "

" Affordable school. Meant more as a commuter school so there is not alot of major outside activities. Dorms are way too tiny and its best to rent near campus if possible and many people have converted homes to studio rentals. "

" Cheap school so you get what you paid for. There are a lot of great professors and staff but there could be some improvements in the staff. Definitely a suitcase school. I would recommend if you want a cheap and decent school. "

" NIU is overall a good university with lots of resources to help students and mostly great professors. Lots of clubs, both academic and casual. Lots of scholarships if you look for them. Writing this during COVID so the social scene isn't great right now, but before COVID it was fairly easy to meet people. "
