" There is affordable living close by and the Transit system makes it easy to commute. The professors are very nice and the campus is beautiful. Was not hard to find buildings or classrooms. There are many clubs offered however, there could be more. Support systems are very helpful at this university. "

" I've only been a student at University of South Alabama (aka "South") for 1 year, however I have some experience with other schools to compare it to (Attended University of Maryland Baltimore County, St. Petersburg College, Community College of Baltimore County).
My experience at South has been mostly positive. In my experience, teachers are more socially liberal than out-of-towners might expect. That being said, there are some bad teachers and there are some great ones, as you might expect from any campus. The students, however, can be a mixed bag. My biggest complaint academically is lack of choices, as some courses may only have one professor teaching that subject. They could use better professors in the hard sciences e.g. Physics & Chemistry. I do think there's an overall trend of letting of students pass despite less-than-satisfactory performances.
The school does place more emphasis on funding sports than they do funding academia. I understand that they want to be they want to be the next Auburn University or University of Alabama, but they aren't. They should work on finding their own niche instead of trying to force themselves into an already occupied lane.
With respect to accommodation, I've seen little effort from the school. I transferred from other schools with previous credits and was told they weren't valid, and had to take the same classes over again, most of which were easier than the classes I already took. I was also born partially Deaf and their disabilities department could do better.
There are plenty of organizations on campus that you can get involved with, but knowing where to go or who to talk to or how to get involved on campus can be difficult. They could do more to inform their students of how to get involved. I've made a couple efforts to reach out to people and haven't been able to make much progress in that sense.
I don't want to seem overly negative, as I have had some excellent professors. My professor for Calc I and II was incredible, I enjoyed my History teachers, and overall it's been a positive experience. They do offer free tutoring services for anyone who seeks it out, which is a plus. I see the facilities being cleaned on a frequent basis, and they do try to keep modern technology in all of the classrooms. "
