" The campus is really nice, and it's well lit at night, which definitely helps you feel safer walking around. The food has had its ups and downs, but honestly, it's pretty decent most of the time. "

" Good school, food could be improved — staff and other students are friendly and supportive. Some parts of campus aren’t well lit when it’s nighttime but a lot of students are out late with friends or skateboarding near the dorms. "

" UC Merced was an ideal campus for a low-key college experience. The professors were top-notch and the campus was state of the art (and still improving). I'd recommend to anyone seeking a quality undergraduate learning experience. The only downside is the limitation of majors offered, at least at the time I was there. The campus is new though, so that should grow in the coming years. "

" The newest UC is definitely a diamond in the rough. They offer amazing financial aid to students who qualify and are well known for their support of first generation students. The diversity on campus is amazing. You get to meet people of all different backgrounds from all over California. They are by no means a bad school, they are just... new. The campus is till being built and the city around it is slowly developing. Merced, the city, is virtually in the middle of nowhere with nothing really fun to do. It is a pretty dangerous place to live and the nearest big cities aren't necessarily the safest either. The safest place to be is on campus which isn't that big either. There aren't many dining options and the cafeteria that is served is average- below average. The staff is quite friendly though. It is a nice campus with a pretty lake in the center. Everything is brand spanking new so it looks clean and nice, but outside of the campus there is nothing, besides Lake Yosemite. The rest is all just empty field. The dorms are perfectly average. Courses aren't impossibly hard and the people who attend here are typically really nice and laid back. It isn't as competitive as other UCs, which gives you an easier chance at getting an internship/ research gig. There are some good active clubs as well as the opportunity to study abroad. The teachers here have had experience teaching at higher end CUs like LA and Berkley so there isn't really a difference in the education received. If you like nature a lot and don't really mind being far from the town then you will most likely really enjoy it here. "
