" Supportive environment, particularly for students experiencing life challenges. They help you stay in school and on track, and support your academic and professional endeavours. Remote and on campus options allow for a high degree of flexibility. High quality courses that incorporate prior cohort's feedback. Highly recommend. "

" I enjoyed my time at Hopkins and felt I received an excellent education. Like most elite universities, the amount of assigned reading is unrealistic and you wind up doing less of it the longer you stay in school. I also enjoyed full tuition scholarship, but otherwise would have felt the price is obscene, and the mandatory room and board was a rip off. But the actual education is great and there are social opportunities if you're proactive. "

" JHU is a great school if you are premed / interested in science / interested in research. There are plenty of research opportunities in a variety of fields both on the undergraduate and nearby medical campus. If you are interested in a humanities major, I would do extensive research to see whether that major has the specific programs and resources you are interested in. A large percentage of students are premed so people study very hard and the social scene is somewhat lacking compared to other major universities. I think Hopkins opens a lot of doors after graduation for many people, but you have to be willing to work extremely hard to succeed. "

" Would say the education here 4 out of 5 times exceeded my expectations. It definitely is a life-changing experience that I got into this school and would recommend people to apply and go to this school. "

" If you're an academically-focused premed, this school is the perfect fit for you. There are plenty of other great programs, and many of my friends were not premed, but JHU gets its reputation from its medical school and this trickles down to be a stereotype for undergrads.
Before attending JHU, I heard rumors of it being "cut-throat," and after 4yrs there as a STEM major, I can definitively say that that's not the case at all. It's more of a "we're all suffering together" vibe, and most people are happy to share notes and work together in the most difficult of classes. Plus, most classes don't grade in a way that fosters competition - as in it is possible for everyone to get an A. That being said, JHU is notorious for grade deflation, so don't be expecting straight As your entire time here. Thankfully, graduate schools and programs usually take this into account when looking at GPA.
The quality of the classes is, for the most part, really really good (as you would expect). Classes are taught at a very advanced level, and there's plenty of smaller discussion-based classes when you're an upperclassman. Most professors are researchers in their field and have plenty of expertise. Speaking of research, if you want to do research as an undergrad JHU is the place to be. Tons of opportunities on campus and at the medical school campus in East Baltimore, with a shuttle that takes you back and forth.
The lack of a proper social scene definitely makes a difference. If you're someone who thrives on that, you will struggle at JHU and I've had friends transfer for this reason. Sure, there's Greek life and plenty of parties, but the most popular place on campus on Friday nights is the library. Likewise, sports games have very poor attendance. There's also no student center on campus, which I think makes the biggest impact. No place for everyone to just get together and relax on campus without work. Thankfully, they're constructing one soon.
Baltimore isn't the greatest college city as there isn't much to do or explore. The campus area is pretty nice and security regularly patrols the nearby neighborhood. However, stray too far and you'll end up on one of our security notice emails for having been robbed. Downtown and Inner Harbor are the typical touristy areas, but it's a small area and gets old quick. There are other places with vibrant nightlife and good places to eat. It's just really lacking when you compare it to other cities in the northeast. Public transport leaves plenty to be desired but at least the Charm City Circulator (bus) is free. Penn Station is only a few minutes from campus and the main JHU shuttle stops there on the way to med campus, which is very convenient. D.C. is just an $8 one-hour train ride away from there, which is great for weekend day trips. "
