" While Stony Brook isn't necessarily the "college experience", it's a great school to essentially get your work done and not much more. There isn't much of a social scene at all which is good if you just want to get your school work done and get out of there as soon as possible. "

" Not a school for you, if you don't like crowds. If you want a low-key social school, consider a private or a commuter school. Majority of this institution featured two hundred plus students in a lecture hall. "

" The social work department is housed in the hospital in the basement. There was a huge gap in quality of faculty, some being excellent, and some being horrific and underqualified. The program ushers in something like 250 students per cohort for the MSW program, and it seems more like a place that trains gatekeepers than actually caring about social justice issues. The internship opportunities are varied, and administrative staff does an okay job, but it is clear they are overwhelmed. When I went there, the building was constantly under construction. At one point I looked up the ranking of SBU's social work program and it was at 78 at the time. It seems like it should be lower. "

" Pretty alright college in terms of social life but in terms of academics, it's one of the top. Clubs and sports scene is pretty good too. But people are mostly focused on the studying and getting a good grade. "

" Stony Brook University is generally a great campus for college students who want to live close to NYC. It is of particular interest to STEM students. The academic staff are overall strong. However, the social life is lackluster. Campus facilities are often inaccessible to disabled students, and the help from administrative staff can be hit or miss. "
