" Academically, UWL can be hit or miss with professors. Either they are incredibly engaging and excited about teaching, or they make 50-minute lectures drag on, seemingly forever. Most classe sizes are around 30, even for gen eds, so your professors know you and make it easy to get help or extensions. My workload at La Crosse was significantly less than at UMN, although hybrid teaching could have played a role. Campus enviroment and surrounding town: UWL is a compact campus, meaning you have plenty of time to grab coffee from the U in between classes without feeling rushed. The Rec facilities are great and Outdoor Connection is an underrated spot on campus. Murphy is a great study spot, but the other buildings on campus are really nice as well, many freshly remodeled. If you're into music, even casually, the CFA practice rooms are free, a luxury I didn't take advantage of enough. The La Crosse area beautiful, with the bluffs and river within walking distance of campus. There's a Kwik Trip on every corner and a Woodman's close by....what more could you ask for? Lots of churches in the area and given the three college campuses in town, the downtown scene isn't too shabby, either. As for campus life, the social scene is there if you want it, but quiet enough to not be a problem if you don't. The dorms are well-kept and the RAs are helpful. Campus resources are widely promoted and easy to access. The food options aren't the most exceptional, but the smoothie bar, Chars, and the U give you enough variety and bang for your buck. Whitney is My favorite part about UWL was the ease of finding community. There are so many avenues to finding "your people". Intramural sports are huge here and there are lots of clubs to get involved with. If you are coming for a sports scene...don't. No one really cares about collegiate sports. Intramurals draw larger crowds, honestly. "

" I thought the gen ed requirements were not the best especially because they required way more work than they should have but once you get into your actual major classes I found it was super nice and I really liked all the professors I had. "

" Bar town with a fun atmosphere with beautiful views of the bluffs and the Mississippi River. A great updated college with traditional and new dormitories. 9 semesters and didn't get sick of the college once. A ton of major and minor options, and a great gym with lots of sports and clubs for you to join. Also an on-campus movie theater! "
