" I attended undergrad at Allegheny College and know I got a great education. I came from a very small high school so the 2,100 students (when I went) was not a big adjustment but it was for some of my friends who came from huge schools. The work was difficult, especially in the higher courses with smaller class sizes and no where to hide--think 7 student! Like most schools, studying and attendance was necessary to do well in the classes. I was on a sports team and that was an interesting experience because it was not really celebrated and it seemed like a huge inconvenience for many of the professors to allow me to miss class for travel. Also, since it was such a small school, it seemed like half of the student population was an athlete so it was not very special. The major negative about Allegheny is the location. The town of Meadville felt very dead and sad when I went there so most of us stayed on campus for everything. The food was good (dinning hall and a food court-type place) but got old after 4 years. I do still miss the quesadillas though! Additionally, the campus is quite small which was good for running between classes but so difficult to park if you did choose to go off campus. Overall, I felt very safe and well educated at Allegheny College. It is a small liberal arts college so you will not get big game days or research experience but you'll gain a lot of confidence through speaking (you'll have to in small classes!) and feel a real sense of community.
